Ogden Tourist Attractions

In Ogden, half an hour's drive north of Salt Lake City, are the Browning Firearms Museum and the Union Pacific Railroad Museum.
Ogden (pop. 78,000) was named for Peter Skene Ogden, a trapper who lived in the region in about 1826.

Fort Buenaventura State Park

Fort Buenaventura State Park on the Weber River is located in Ogden, 35mi/56km north of Salt Lake City. The fort is on a 32 acre site that was once the first permanent Anglo settlement in the Great Basin. The fort was established in the 1840's by Miles Goodyear.

Ogden Nature Center

The Ogden Nature Center is a 152 acre nature perserve and wildlife sanctuary that is located on West 12th Street near the Ogden Defence Depot. It was the first nature center in Utah and was founded in 1975. The center is home to birds of prey, snakes, tortoises, salamanders and other native animal species.

Daughters of Utah Pioneers Museum

The Pioneer Hall Museum in Ogden has pioneer photographs, household items, artifacts and memorabilia. Next door is the Miles Goodyear Cabin, the first permanent home built in Utah in 1845. It was originally part of Fort Buenaventura.

Eccles Community Art Center

The Eccles Community Art Center in Ogden has new exhibitions each month in a Victorian sandstone mansion. The house was built in 1893 and bought by David and Bertha Eccles in 1896. The house is on the National Register of Historic Places.

Municipal Gardens

The Municipal Garden in Ogden occupies five acres at 25th Street and Grant Avenue. The garden features picnic areas and a variety of flowers. There is a large Christmas Display and Santa's Village from Thanksgiving until Christmas.

Ogden River Parkway

The Ogden River Parkway is a 3.3mi/5.3km paved path that begins at the mouth of the Ogden Canyon and ends in the downtown area of Ogden. Attractions include the George S. Eccles Dinosaur Park, the Big D Sports Park, and Lorin Farr Park.

Big D Sports Park

The Big D Sports Park is located along the Ogden River Parkway. It has facilities for picnics, fishing, soccer, baseball, volleyball, basketball, and other activities.

George S Eccles Dinosaur Park

The George S Eccles Dinosaur Park in Ogden along the Ogden River Parkway has over 50 displays of prehistoric dinosaurs and reptiles. The site features a Tyrannosaurus Rex that stands 20ft/6.0m high and is 45ft/13.7m long.

Lorin Farr Park

The Lorin Farr Park on the Ogden River Parkway in Ogden features waterslides, a swimming pool and picnicking facilities.

Pineview Reservoir

The Pineview Reservoir is an artificial lake overlooking Ogden Canyon. It is ideal for fishing and water sport activities.

Peery's Egyptian Theater

The Egyptian Theatre in Ogden was built in 1924 and completely refurbished in 1997. It is one of two Egyptian-style atmospheric theaters remaining in the United States.

Weber State University

Weber State University is a four-year institution founded in 1889. It features several attractions including the Museum of Natural Science, the Layton Ott Planetarium and the Collett Art Gallery.

Collett Art Gallery

The Collett Art Gallery at Weber State University in Ogden features exhibits and lectures on contemporary art.

Museum of Natural Science

The Museum of Natural Science at Weber State University in Ogden has scientific exhibits on everything from prehistoric animals to modern medicine.

Ott Planetarium

The Ott Planetarium is located above the Natural Science Museum in Weber State University's Lind Lecture Hall. It features 60 seats and a 30 foot dome.

Cold Springs Trout Farm

The Cold Springs Trout Farm in North Ogden features exhibits on the breeding and conservation of fish. It is a great place to catch rainbow trout.

Historic Radisson Suite Hotel

The Historic Radisson Suite Hotel was originally known as the Bigelow-Ben Lomond when it opened in 1927. It was added to the National Register of Buildings in 1990.

Lindquist Field

Lindquist Field in Ogden is the home of the Ogden Raptors, a Class A Pioneer League baseball team. It seats 3,200 people and was completed in 1997.

Mormon Temple and Tabernacle

The Mormon Temple and Tabernacle in Ogden are impressive buildings of white stone. The temple has a single spire and is contemporary in style.

Treehouse Children's Museum

The Treehouse Children's Museum in Ogden was established in 1992 and is designed for children from 3 to 13. The museum places an emphasis on literature.
