The beach at Rendezvous Bay is unique in Montserrat as it is the only place to find white sand. The bay itself is favored for swimming, diving and snorkeling. Access to the beach is primarily by boat. It is possible to hike in although it is somewhat strenuous.
Covered in tropical rainforest, the Centre Hills are renowned for their biological diversity and rich habitats.
Most of Montserrat's 34 species of land birds and large numbers of migrant songbirds make this area their home, including the threatened Montserrat Oriole (the national bird), the rare Forest Thrush, the Bridled Quail Dove and the Mangrove Cuckoo. The tree frog and the indigenous Mountain Chicken (also a frog), the Galliwasp, Anole and Ground Lizard as well as the Dwarf Gecko and Iguana are reptiles and amphibians found in the area.
Scientists at the Montserrat Volcano Observatory monitor seismic activity on the island. The observatory offers lectures and field trips. Visitors can learn about recent volcanic activity at the Soufriere Hills Volcano.
