Lancaster (pop. 56,000), founded in 1721, is the heart of the Pennsylvania Dutch Country. Features of interest are the Heritage Center Museum in Penn Square; the Central Market, housed in the historic market halls beside the Heritage Center; and the Farmers' Market (Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday), which has been held without interruption since 1730 - the oldest public farmers' market in the country.
