Situated at an altitude of just under 4,800 ft/1,500m, Lakeview (pop. 2,500) is one of the highest towns in Oregon. It is located on the edge of the southeast Oregon high desert near the California border.
The Hart Mountain National Antelope Refuge is one of the largest wildlife sanctuaries in America featuring more than 250,000 acres. It is located in central Oregon's high desert northeast of Lakeview. It is home to pronghorn antelope, bighorn sheep, mule deer, sage grouse and a variety of other wildlife.
The Schminck Memorial Museum in Lakeview features American Indian artifacts and items related to pioneer life, including instruments, clothing, and toys.
