Lake Brienz Attractions
Lake Brienz (altitude 567 m/1,860ft) is 14km/9mi long and between 2-2.5km/1-2mi wide, with an area of 29 sq. km/ 11 sq. mi); its greatest depth is 259 m/850ft. The lake, which is in effect an enlargement of the valley of the River Aare, lies between the limestone ridge of the Brienzer Grat and the Jurassic Faulhorn group. Lake Brienz was originally connected with Lake Thun, but now lies 7 m/23ft higher. The slopes of the surrounding hills are wooded and this gives the landscape an exceptionally charming aspect.
