Hyde Park, NY Tourist Attractions

This town is best noted as the home of Franklin D. Roosevelt and his wife Eleanor. Hyde Park has numerous notable historic sites including the Culinary Institute of America; Val-Kill cottage, the home of Eleanor Roosevelt; Mills Mansion and Vanderbilt Mansion.

Home Of Franklin D. Roosevelt National Historic Sites

The Home of Franklin D. Roosevelt is located on 200 acres that still remains as it was when Franklin Roosevelt died in 1945. President and Eleanor Roosevelt are both buried on the grounds. The house itself dates from 1826 and includes the FDR Presidential Library & Museum.

Vanderbilt Mansion

Vanderbilt Mansion National Historic Site is one of the most intact examples of this type of home from the 19th C. This 54 room mansion is fully furnished.
The Italian Gardens that surround the mansion have been restored to resemble their appearnace inthe 1930s.

Eleanor Roosevelt National Historic Site

Eleanor Roosevelt, wife of President Franklin D. Roosevelt kept this weekend cottage and gardens to escape the pressures of life in Washington. The ground include a pond and trails through woods.

Staatsburgh State Historic Site (formerly Mills Mansion State Historic Site)

Built in 1832, the 65 room mansion in Staatsburgh State Historic Site was remodeled and enlarged in 1895 by architect Stanford White. It features marble fireplaces, wood paneling, ornate furniture and art objects from around the world.

Franklin D. Roosevelt Museum and Library

Located next to the FDR National Historic Site is the first presidential library. Displays include photographs, artwork, official documents and speeches.
