Grena Attractions

Jutland

The resort of Grenå, the center of a popular holiday region, lies on the Kattegat on the coast of the Djursland peninsula, part of Jutland. From the town, which is important as a ferry and fishing port, car ferries leave for Varberg and Halmstad in Sweden. There are excursion ships to the island of Anhol. Two districts of Grenå are of importance - the town center and the harbor area.
Kattegat Center
One of Grenå's special attractions is the new Kattegatcenter near the harbor, an impressive modern building with several aquaria where fish of every kind and other marine creatures can be observed. In a "Science Center" adults and children can perform experiments and another department provides information about underwater life.

Danish Museum of Fisheries
Grenå boasts many old half-timbered houses, in one of which (Torvet, dating from 1750) at Sondergade 1 in the marketplace can be found the Djursland Museum and the Danish Fishing Museum (Dansk Fiskerimuseum). The Fishing Museum provides an insight into the history of the Danish fishing industry and also has a collection of model ships. There is a separate department devoted to eel-fishing. The Djursland Museum displays coins and beautiful Danish pottery from the 17th to 20th century, together with an exhibition documenting archaeological investigations which have been carried out in recent years.
