The city of Greensboro was founded around the middle of the 18th Century and is named after patriot commander Nathaniel Greene. The Blandwood Mansion was built in 1846 and is one of Greensboro's finest buildings. Constructed for former North Carolina Governor John Motley Morehead, the building has been lovingly restored to its former glory. Inside visitors will find all manner of period pieces and décor from the mid 19th Century. Blandwood Mansion was named a National Historic Landmark in 1988.

The Greensboro Arboretum in the city of the same name is a wonderful place to spend an afternoon smelling the roses. The Greensboro Arboretum is spread out over 17 acres and features a wide variety of plant species in arrangements, one even including a fountain. Of particular note is the Beeson Rhododendron Gardens that generally come into bloom from May to late June.
The Greensboro Children's Museum offers a wealth of fun and educational exhibits for young children. Children are encouraged to participate through hands on exhibits. The Children's Museum is set up like a town where young people can learn about the jobs and industries in a community. The museum is quite extensive so be sure to leave plenty of time for your visit.

The Guilford Courthouse National Military Park is a prime attraction in the Greensboro area, especially for history buffs interested in the US Revolutionary War. It was here that a significant battle was fought on March 15th, 1781 and the Guilford Courthouse National Military Park was the first revolutionary battlefield protected by the Federal government. The park has a great visitors center and plenty of places to stretch your legs.

The Guilford Native American Art Gallery, located in Greensboro, is a good spot to stop in and view some fine Native American art. Each year the gallery hosts four to five exhibitions featuring local, national, and international touring exhibits. The Guilford Native American Art Gallery is one of the first operations to be wholly owned and operated by Native American Indians. An on-site gift shop sells authentic Native Indian crafts and artwork.

A visit to the Natural Science Center in Greensboro is time well spent. Here visitors will find a zoo, a planetarium, and a plethora of interesting and interactive displays. One display that is a must-see is the 12 m / 36 ft high Tyrannosaurus Rex dinosaur model. Outside the buildings visitors will find great picnic areas, playgrounds, and walking trails. The Weatherspoon Art Museum is found on the campus of the University of North Carolina in Greensboro. The museum is noted for having one of the best collections of contemporary and modern art in the Southeast. Within the permanent collection two collections are of note; The Dillard Collection of Art on Paper and The Claribel and Etta Cone Collection. The Weatherspoon Art Museum also hosts traveling national and international exhibitions.
