Goiânia
Goiânia lies in the south of Goiás State, 209km/130mi south-west of Brasília. Founded as recently as 1933, it is laid out on a unified and largely symmetrical plan. In 1935 it replaced Goiás as administrative center of the state of that name, and two years later became its capital.

Visitors arriving at the airport (Setor Santa Genoveva, 6km/4mi north-east of city center) or coming from Brasília can follow Avenida Araguia, which runs diagonally through the north-eastern part of the city, to Praça Dr Pedro Ludovico, on which is the Government Palace.
