Goiânia

Goiânia lies in the south of Goiás State, 209km/130mi south-west of Brasília. Founded as recently as 1933, it is laid out on a unified and largely symmetrical plan. In 1935 it replaced Goiás as administrative center of the state of that name, and two years later became its capital.

The city center is laid out around two main axes intersecting at right angles, with diagonal avenues dividing it into segments. It consists of three zones - the central administrative district, the commercial and industrial sector to the north and the residential quarter to the south. The Setor Campinas corresponds to the former commune of that name which was incorporated in the expanding city.
