Plymouth
Plymouth, the former capital of Montserrat, was devastated by volcanic eruptions in the mid 1990s leaving it uninhabitable. The town is now in a no entry zone known as the 'exclusion zone' so visitors will not be able to see it up close. However, it is possible to see the remains of Plymouth by boat tour from the water or other vantage points such as Garibaldi Hill or Richmond Hill.
Soufrière Hills
The volcano on Soufrière Hills began its most recent activity in 1995. Eruptions destroyed the surrounding villages and the nearby airport. The Montserrat Volcano Observatory monitors its activity.
