Dungannon is a thriving center of 12,000 people which was once the seat of the Chieftains of Ulster, the Royal O'Neills. Traces of Dungannon's ancestry can be seen everywhere, especially at Benburb, where an important battle took place. Nearby is Benburb Castle.
Altmore Open Farm
Agricultural tours are offered at the Altmore Open Farm, a 175 acre sheep farm 900ft up in the Sperrins. Visitors can observe two working waterwheels, rare breeds of farm animals and domestic fowl. Pony trekking available.

The Ardboe Cross was carved in the 10th C. with Old Testament scenes of its east side, New Testament scenes on the west.

Drum Manor Forest Park, Northern Ireland
Drum Manor Forest Park is located just three miles west of Cookstown. The park features a walled butterfly garden, a demonstration shrub garden, and an arboretum. There is also a nature trail along the two lakes in the park.
Parkanaur Forest Park
The park includes a daffodil and rhododendron garden in Spring. Nature trails run through forest and Victorian garden. A wishing well, old archway, lecture halls and a wildfowl enclosure are also part of the park.
Peatlands Park
Peatlands Park is highly recommended for those interested in the significance of peat in the Dungannon region. A narrow railroad winds through its tree-covered property.

The Argory
The Argory is a National Trust property dating back to 1824 which overlooks the River Blackwater and is surrounded by 315 acres of woodland. Although it has changed considerably since the turn of the century, this manor house still offers a fascinating display of furniture, including an 1824 organ. The stable yard includes a coach house, harness room, laundry and acetylene gas plant.
The house also has a sundial garden.

Tullaghoge is located 2.5 miles southeast of Cookstown.
Tullaghoge Fort
Tullaghoge Fort is the site where Hugh O'Neill was crowned in 1593. It served as headquarters of the O'Hagans, chief justices of Ireland. Excellent views of the old kingdom of Tyrone from the hilltop.
Tullymore - Benburb Valley Heritage Centre
The Benburb Valley Heritage Centre in Tullymore houses a 19th C. weaving factory which has maintained a significant array of machinery used in linen making. It also features a model display of the Battle of Benburb in 1646.
U.S. Grant Ancestral Homestead
Ulysses S. Grant's ancestral homestead has been restored to its original appearance and contains displays chronicling his career from clerk to army Commander to President.
