Decin Tourist Attractions

Decin is an inland port on the River Labe, located within the Bohemian Switzerland National Park (Ceske Svycarkso). Decin is an industrial city on a major trade route between the Czech Republic and Germany. On the right bank of the River Labe is the Old Town of Decin and on the left bank is Podmokly, now part of Decin.
The city's biggest attraction is the Decin castle. A structure has stood on this location since the 14th Century, although it has undergone many reconstructions since that time. The castle served as a fort during the Seven Years War, was converted into a Renaissance Castle in the 17th Century, and was reconstructed in a Baroque style in the late 18th Century.
The Decin Castle fell into disrepair during the Soviet Reign but has recently undergone restorations. It is now home to a museum and also functions as a venue for cultural events.

Surroundings

Benesov nad Ploucnici

The town of Benesov nad Ploucnici, southwest of Ceska Kamenice in the Bohemian Switzerland National Park (Ceske Svycarsko), is most notable for the town's two castles. Both are Gothic style castles with Renaissance features. The Upper Castle dates to the early 16th Century and was built by Bedrich Salhausen on the site of a former fort. The Upper Castle is used as an exhibition space for changing art displays in Benesov nad Ploucnici.
The Lower Castle was built shortly after the Upper Castle to accommodate Bedrich's sons. It houses a collection of pieces from 16th and 17th Century representing everyday life of the aristocracy, including armory, furniture, and household items. It is of interest only to visitors who have not had the opportunity to see this type of exhibit elsewhere.

Louny

The town of Louny has a long history, and was first mentioned in the early part of the 12th Century. However, little remains from ancient times. The town was hit by a fire in 1517 which destroyed many of the buildings, leaving little more than a Gothic town gate and the church tower standing. Many of the town's older buildings were torn down in the 19th and 20th Century and as a result most of the architecture is from just after that time period. The main highlight of Louny is the late Gothic style Church of St Nicholas (Kostel sv Mikulase), built in the early 16th Century.

Klasterec Chateau, Klasterec nad Ohri

Situated along the banks of the River Ohri, Klasterec nad Ohri is not far from the town of Kadan. One of the highlights of the town is the Klasterec Chateau and its English Park. This 17th Century building is built in Gothic style and houses a collection of Bohemian porcelain, which was obtained from the Prague Museum of Applied Art. In addition to this the Klasterec Chateau also displays temporary exhibits and serves as a venue for concerts. The park is a beautiful green space, which also displays statues by sculptor Jan Brokoff.
Also of interest in Klasterec nad Ohri and not far from the Chateau is the Evzenie spring, discovered in the late 1800s, and Spa Center of Kyselka. The spa offers a variety of treatments for numerous diseases and ailments.
