Clarence Attractions

The Holland Land Company began offering lots in 1799, on the old Buffalo Road, to those who would build taverns to accommodate travelers. The Town of Clarence was established in 1808.

Clarence is known as the "Antiques Capital of Western New York" and many of its historic buildings have been preserved.

The Antique World Marketplace in Clarence features antiques, collectibles, furniture, jewelry, glass, china, toys, dolls, and ephemera on display and available for purchase.

Asa Ransom Grist Mill
Asa Ransom purchased a large tract of land from the Holland Land Company and is considered one of the "founding fathers" of Clarence Hollow. He opened a grist mill in 1803 on his property.
Clarence Church (closed)
The church is closed and currently used for other purposes.

Built in 1877, Clarence Church featured an interior construction that allowed for movable walls which surrounded the baptistry located at the front of the sanctuary.
Clarence Classical School
Clarence Classical School was moved by horse and cart to its current location in 1841 to make room for the railroad. It was established as a private school that charged tuition.
Clarence Free Library
The Clarence Free Library was built in 1936.
German Methodist Church
A German Methodist church was built on this site in 1876. The congregation merged with other Methodists in 1907 and the building became the Grange Hall.
Humbert Mercantile and Drug Store
The original store was built in 1901 across from its current location. It was a place to purchase groceries and care for "what ailed you."
IOOF Hall
The Odd Fellows Hall was designed by Edward M. Fisler and built in 1911.
Meeting House
In 1844, Abraham Shope donated land to the Clarence Church of Christ Disciples, who built a stone church on the property. It later served as a tenant house for the Auto Club and a restaurant before being purchased by the Historical Society.
Presbyterian Church
This building was built in 1843 by the Presbyterian Society. A new church was built in 1956 to house the growing congregation.
Rice-Sinclair House
The two story log cabin built before 1811 complete with hand-hewn timbers and plank floors is found within the home of Mrs. Doris Brace.
West Shore House (Spoor's Hotel)
William Spoor built the stone tavern in 1812. In 1850 it continued as the Sadler House and the West Shore House.
