Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest covers over a million and a half acres. These are actually two separate forests which are managed as one.
The area offers a range of activities including fishing, camping, hiking, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling.

Train rides begin in Laona, taking passengers to the Camp Five Museum Complex. The museum displays items related to the history of logging in the area. There is also a working blacksmith shop, an early 1900s store, agricultural display, and various activities designed for all ages.

The Rhinelander Logging Museum provides visitors a glimpse into the life of a logger. Interesting displays and exhibits along with a history of logging in the local area are on display. The Rhinelander Logging Museum has several outbuildings including a cookhouse, a bunkhouse, and a blacksmith shop. Also of note is the model railway in the basement.
The Dr. Kate museum in Woodruff is a snapshot of the life and times of Dr. Kate Newcomb's life. On display are mementos of her practice, which operated between 1930 and 1950. Dr Kate was a local legend and earned herself the nickname "angel on snowshoes" for her hard work.
