Chainat, situated on the Menam Chao Phraya between Singburi and Uthai Thani in the northern part of Thailand's central plain, has been an important trade and distribution center since time immemorial. By bus: from Bangkok Northern Bus Terminal.
By rail: Bangkok-Chiang Mai line; nearest railway station at Takhli (18 km (11 mi.)).

Chainat Dam
Completed in 1957 the dam south of Chainat was Thailand's first. By feeding a network of canals it regulates the water supply to the rice fields of the Menam plain where the main crop is water-rice.
Wat Boromathat
Above the Chainat dam stands Wat Boromathat, its chedi dating from the U Thong period (12th-15th c.) but showing unmistakable signs of Srivijaya influence. Note the seated Buddha figures in the four niches.
The museum next to the wat has an interesting collection of Buddhas, all of them found in this particular area by a local monk. The figures illustrate a variety and sometimes mixture of styles. One stone tablet is decorated with a seated Buddha and the "Wheel of the Law" (Dvaravati style, 9th/10th c.).

Wat Pak Klong Mak
Wat Pak Klong Mak is found where the Klong Makham joins the Menam Chao Phraya. The interior is decorated with frescos of Thailand's highly esteemed Prince Chumphon who grew up in the monastery.
Wat Thammamun
Wat Thammamun, on the left bank of the Menam north of the town, boasts not only a seated Buddha figure in the Ayutthaya style but also a footprint of the Buddha (in the wiharn).
