Bremerton is a small city located directly west of Seattle, across Puget sound. The town has worked to develop its waterfront, has a historic arts district, and some nice walking areas, including the Boardwalk.
The Naval Memorial Museum of the Pacific, more commonly called the Bremerton Naval Museum, focuses on a wide range or naval historical events. Some of the events include the Spanish-American War, Pearl Harbor, as well as the craft of ship building.
The Naval Undersea Museum in Keyport features a wide range of exhibits from scuba diving to submarines. The museum also has a good display on US torpedoes and looks at the ocean environment. Kitsap County Historical Society Museum presents the history of Kitsap County through unique and changing exhibits. The museum also has a full calendar of events so check ahead to find out what's going on.
Poulsbo, on the Kitsap Peninsula, proudly calls itself "Little Norway on the Fjord", a reference to the town's Norwegian heritage. The town has many shops and bakeries that can attest to the Norwegian roots.
From Poulsbo it's possible to arrange kayaking trips through the Olympic Outdoor Center. Also, within a short drive of the town visitors will find gofling, hiking, and many other recreational opportunities.
