Northwest of Denver is Boulder, a good center from which to explore the Arapahoe National Forest and the Rocky Mountain National Park.Boulder is home to a branch of the University of Colorado, as well as numerous scientific research laboratories.
Leanin' Tree Museum of Western Art
The Leanin' Tree Museum of Western Art in Boulder, Colorado has one of the finest western art collections in America. There are 400 original paintings and bronze sculptures of cowboys, Native Americans, wildlife and Western landscapes. The outdoor Sculpture Garden exhibits more than 25 life-size or larger bronze sculptures. The Leanin' Tree Museum is located in the corporate headquarters of the Leanin' Tree greeting card company.
National Center for Atmospheric Research
The National Center for Atmospheric Research is located in Boulder. Renowned architect I.M. Pei designed the building, a collection of abstract, geometric forms. Housing research facilities and displays concerning a variety of weather-related topics, visitors are welcome to enjoy hands-on educational exhibits. Outside the building are hiking trails into the Flatiron Mountains.
Boulder Museum of History
The Boulder Museum of History is housed in Harbek-Bergheim House on University Hill. Exhibits on the settlement of the city and its surrounding area date back to the 1800's. Over 200,000 photographs and 700,000 historic documents are on display and available for research.
Dairy Center for the Arts
The Dairy Center for the Arts in Boulder is home to the Boulder Philharmonic Orchestra. This performing and visual arts center offers classes, exhibitions and performances in dance, music, theatre, literary, visual and media arts. It is housed in the historic Watts-Hardy Dairy building.
Celestial Seasonings Tour Of Tea
There are free tours at the corporate headquarters of Celestial Seasonings in Boulder. Original paintings from tea boxes are on display, tea tastings, and a walk through the Celestial Herb Garden are part of the tour.
Chautauqua Park
Chautauqua Park in Boulder was founded in 1898, with 26 acres located below the Flatiron Mountains. During the summer there are musical concerts and a silent film series in the auditorium.
Hotel Boulderado
The Hotel Boulderado is a National Historic Landmark, which opened in 1909. The name was made from the words "Boulder" and "Colorado". The five-story brick building features a stained glass ceiling and cantilevered cherrywood staircase.
Museum of Contemporary Art
The Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art began in 1972 as the Boulder Arts Center. It was renamed in 1995 and prominently features the work of local, national and international artists within three galleries.
Collage Children's Museum (closed)

Flagstaff Scenic Highway
Flagstaff Scenic Highway winds to the summit of Flagstaff Mountain. There are views of the Continental Divide, city, valley and plains.
Gateway Park Fun Center
Gateway Park Fun Center is a 15 acre fun center offering indoor and outdoor activities such as miniature golf, go-karts, a human maze, batting cages and an arcade.
University of Colorado at Boulder
The Boulder campus of the University of Colorado was established in 1876. The campus covers 1,590 acres.
University Of Colorado Museum
The University Of Colorado Museum in Boulder has five exhibition halls featuring wonders from around the world. The permanent exhibits include dinosaurs and Native American cultures. Temporary exhibits cover a wide range of topics from meteors to endangered species.
University of Colorado Heritage Center
The University of Colorado Heritage Center is located in the oldest building on the campus. The museum has exhibits on the history of the school, including a 19th-century classroom and space suits worn by some of the 12 CU alumni who went on to become astronauts.
Mary Rippon Outdoor Theater
Every summer, the Mary Rippon Outdoor Theater at the University of Colorado in Boulder hosts the Colorado Shakespeare Festival.
