The world famous one horned rhinoceros and other rare species of wildlife on the verge of extinction are found within the boundaries of Assam. A visit to the national parks or wildlife sanctuaries will allow visitors to see much of the wildlife including twenty out of forty one listed endangered species.

The Hayagriba Madhava Temple at Hajo is important for both Hindus and Buddhists. The temple was destroyed by Kalapahar and rebuilt in 1543.
Powa-Mecca is a celebrated Muslim shrine at Hajo. According to the inscription on the wall of the mosque, it was built in 1657 and the foundation consists of some earth brought from Mecca.
