Arizona - River Country Attractions

Originally called Brayton, the town of Bouse got its current name in 1907. There are a number of old buildings from the town's early years.

The East Cactus Plain Wilderness is a massive dune field located northeast of Bouse. Horseback riding, backpacking, sightseeing, photography, and botanical and wildlife study are popular recreational activities.

Bullhead City was originally a construction camp erected during the building of Davis Dam. The rock formation that gave the town its name has since disappeared under the waters of Lake Mohave.

Fishing, water skiing and sailing are a few of the recreational activities available on the Colorado River and Lake Mohave.

The Colorado River Nature Center occupies 500 acres along the Colorado River south of Bullhead City. This conservation area allows public access to an undeveloped beach.

Ehrenberg is located in La Paz County, 200 feet above sea level in the Mohave Desert. Named for local surveyor Herman Ehrenberg, the town has some old adobe ruins and a cemetery.

The Ehrenberg Sandbowl is a popular site for off road vehicles, with hilly, sandy terrain and a network of roads and trails.

The Fort Mojave Indian Reservation stretches along the Colorado River, covers 23,669 acres in Arizona and 5,582 acres in Nevada, and is home to 1,120 Mojave Indians.

Keepers of the Wild is a sanctuary for neglected or abused exotic/endangered animals providing rehabilitation and preservation. Over 125 exotic animals call Keepers of the Wild home including lions, tigers, leopards, jaguars, cougars, and wolves.

Wellton is a small town located between Ligurta and Tacna and surrounded by the Gila Mountains. The town has a rich history that began when it was a water stop for the railroad.
