Mont-de-Marsan (pop. 32,234), chief town of the département of Landes, lies at the junction of two little rivers, the Midour and the Douze, which unite to form the Midouze. The Municipal Museum, housed in two 14th C. buildings, contains an archeological collection and works by modern sculptors. The Fêtes de la Madeleine in July are a great annual occasion, with bullfights, horse races and other events.
