Paleis Het Loo was built for King William III, with later additions by King Louis Bonaparte. The palace now contains a couple of museums, and a display of former royal vehicles in the stables.
Apeldoorn's most beautiful park, Berg en Bos, an area of natural woodland, lies on the Wilslaan. In summer there are magnificent illuminations here.
In the park is the Apenheul, an enclosed area of 300 hectares/750 acres in which monkeys live in freedom among the visitors, in conditions designed to resemble their natural habitat.
Other fine parks are the Oranjepark, the oldest of Apeldoorn's parks, and the Wilhelminapark.
Through a merger the former Van Reekum Museum became a part of the new CODA. The CODA (Cultuur Onder Dak Apeldoorn) was built to accommodate the Historic Museum of Apeldoorn, the Van Reekum Museum, and the municipal archive and library.

Southeast of Apeldoorn lies the village of Loenen. Here, set in beautiful gardens, is the Huis ter Horst, a brick-built Renaissance mansion (16th C.). In 1791 the facade was rebuilt in stone, with a classical pediment.
The Loenersloot Castle is located in Loenen on the left bank of the River Angstel.
To the west of the village of Loenen near Apeldoorn is a cemetery with the graves of 2,761 victims of the Second World War (soldiers, resistance fighters, forced labor deportees).
