Amapá Territory
The territory of Amapá lies at the most northerly point on Brazil's Atlantic coast. It is separated from the state of Pará, out of which it was carved in 1943, by the lower course and the estuary of the Amazon. The river port of Porto de Santana, close to the town of Macapá, is important for the shipping of the manganese ore which is mined farther inland in the Serra do Navio.
