The Hague - Municipal Museum Gemeentemuseum
|
|
To the north of The Hague's Peace Palace is the modern residential district of Duinoord, a kind of garden city with houses built in a style influenced by the old Dutch almshouses (hofjes). On the edge of Zorgvliet Park, at Stadhouderslaan 41, is the Municipal Museum (Gemeentemuseum), designed by H. P. Berlage (1935). The museum displays a great range of material relating to the history of the town, 19th and 20th century art, applied and decorative art (ceramics, silver, furniture) and an outstanding collection of musical instruments both traditional and electronic. Of particular quality is the section of modern art (formed originally from two private collections), with numerous works by Piet Mondriaan and Paul Klee.
