The Hague - Madurodam
At Haringkade 175 can be found Madurodam. Opened in 1952, this miniature town was built at the expense of Mr and Mrs L. M. L. Maduro of Curacao in memory of their son, who died in Dachau in 1945. Within an area no bigger than a football pitch is laid out a miniature Dutch landscape on a scale of 1:25 - the heart of an old medieval town with canals and gabled houses, churches, historic buildings, castles and palaces, a modern district, Schiphol Airport, factories, roads and a polder complete with windmills and cows.
There is a forest, donated by Canada, made up entirely of Bonsai trees.
