Aberdare National Park

Aberdare National Park was created in 1950 to protect the forested slopes and moors of the Aberdare Mountains. The park has elephant, lion, rhino, black leopard and the elusive bongo antelope within its boundaries. Nocturnal game viewing is a serious event at the two lodges located within Aberdare National Park. A bell at the lodges is used to notify visitors of an unusual animal at the waterhole.
Chania Falls and Karura Falls have viewing platforms nearby to watch the hundreds of bird species found in Aberdare National Park.
The park consists of two different settings, the Kinangop Plateau is in the western portion of Aberdare National Park and has moorland, peaks and forest. The Salient has dense rainforest to the east.
