Udon Thani
Udon Thani (Udorn) is the last large town before the border with neighboring Laos, about 560 km (348 mi.) from Bangkok. It lies in the plain of the Menam Luang which flows into the Mekong, and in recent years has developed into a lively commercial and communications center. The temples are of recent origin; not far to the east (46 km (29 mi.)), however, is Ban Chiang, which is of great archaeological interest.
By car: from Nakhon Ratchasima Highway 2 (200 km (124 mi.)).
By bus: from Bangkok Northern Bus Terminal (560 km (348 mi.)).
