Trang

The provincial town of Trang on the river of the same name is in the south of the Malayan peninsula, only about 20 km (12 mi.) from the Indian Ocean in an undulating upland area with extensive rubber plantations upon which the wealth of this busy town is based. Many Chinese and Malays live here giving it the typical southern Thai atmosphere. On the Phattalung road is a large park with pretty lotus ponds and tall trees and palms.

By car: from Krabi and Phattalung Highway 4 (140 km (87 mi.) and 55 km (34 mi.) respectively). From Nakhon Si Thammarat Highways 403/4.

By rail: station on the branch line from Thung Song (on the Bangkok- South Thailand line) to Lake Andaman.

By bus: from Bangkok Southern Bus Terminal (940 km (584 mi.), duration 13 hours).

By air: from Bangkok (2 hours 10 mins.).

Trang Surroundings

Chinese Temple
3 km (2 mi.) north of Trang is a Chinese temple devoted to the god Kwan Tee Hun with a colorful decorated ceiling.
Khao Pina
10 km (6 mi.) past the Chinese Temples outside of Trang, a path turns off Highway 4 to the cave temple of Khao Pina, with Thai-Chinese works of folk art and beautiful stalactites.
Trang Area Beaches
A row of beautiful beaches stretches along the Indian Ocean. Highways 4046/4162 (about 40 km (25 mi.)) lead to the long beach of Pak Meng with very fine sand. The island Koh Ngai can be visited from here (40 mins.).
