Satun
Satun is the most southerly town in Thailand on Lake Andaman, about 800 km (500 mi.) from Bangkok as the crow flies. It is situated at the foot of the steeply rising Tenasserim mountain range on the estuary of the Menam Satun in an exotic countryside, almost devoid of humans, with dark green rain forest and soaring mountain chains. On the coast are idyllic beaches with crystal-clear water and offshore islands with coral banks.
By car: from Songkhla highways 407/43 to Rattaphum, Highway 406 (155 km (96 mi.)). From Trang highways 404/4078 (135 km (83 mi.)).
By bus: regular connections from the above towns.
Cut off from the world and close to the border this town has old world charm. The inhabitants earn their livelihood from fishing and trade with Malaysia. Two fishing harbors are the only source of activity in this otherwise quiet town.
