Samut Prakan

The provincial town of Samut Prakan, situated about 20 km (12 mi.) south of Bangkok on the east bank of the Menam Chao Phraya near its estuary into the Gulf of Thailand, attracts many day trippers from Bangkok. Apart from the old town center and a small harbor there is not much to see.

By car or taxi: on Highway 3.

By bus: from Bangkok Southern Terminal several times daily.

Shell Museum
On the northern edge of Samut Prakan on Highway 3 (Sukhumvit Highway) is the Shell Museum of Thailand with collections of different shells from all the world's oceans. Also on the Sukhumvit Highway the Marine Museum contains detailed replica models of ships and royal skiffs, sailors' uniforms and weapons (open as for Shell Museum).
