Phetchabun Attractions

Phetchabun

Phetchabun, the main town of the province of the same name situated in the northern part of central Thailand, lies in a narrow valley of the Menam Pasak between high mountain chains overgrown with dense rain forest. (In the east of the town is the Dong Phaya Yen massif, the threshold to the catchment area of the Mekong.) It is the center of an intensively farmed area; rice, maize, cotton and tobacco thrive here. The scenery boasts marvelous beauty, but the town itself offers few special sights.

By car: from Bangkok Highway 1, beyond Saraburi 21 (350 km (217 mi.)).

By bus: from Bangkok Northern Bus Terminal.

By rail: nearest station at Taphan Hin (62 km (39 mi.)).

Large orange plantations extend for about 20 km (13 mi.) south of Phetchabun. In common with the cattle farm and the stud farm nearby they are privately owned, although visits are possible.
Tham Phra Grotto
On a mountain on the left-hand side of the road 22 km (14 mi.) north of Phetchabun can be seen the statue of a seated Buddha. The entrance to Tham Phra Grotto, with its marvelous dripstone shapes, lies at the end of a path (signposted).
