Menam Kok

From Tha Thon, the border town about 22 km (14 mi.) from Fang, it is possible to make the spectacular and potentially dangerous trip on a tour boat to Chiang Rai, traveling downriver between rocky cliffs and riding the Menam Kok rapids. It is advisable to check beforehand with local experts or the YMCA tourist information services in Chiang Rai on whether the political situation is such that these trips can go ahead, and what security precautions are necessary. (An armed guard should be demanded before undertaking this trip.)
