Koh Sichang Attractions
There are boat trips from Si Racha to the offshore island of Koh Sichang, which actually consists of six rocky reefs (operates from the fishing harbor from 8.30am; last journey 3pm). On the island there is still a transshipment port that was important in the 19th c.; since the delta of the Menam Chao Phraya has been regularly dredged the cargo ships have been able to reach the capital. Nowadays Koh Sichang is just a fishing port which provides a livelihood for the population of about 2200.
Summer Residence of King Rama V
The ruined summer residence of King Chulalongkom (Rama V) situated on the highest point of the island is worth a visit. As the island was occupied by the French in 1893 this palace was never completed. On the southern tip of the island a chedi remains from the Wat Asdangnimitr.
Temples
Other sights include two temples built on a steep slope. A yellow statue of Buddha makes one of them visible from afar; from the other, a Chinese temple, there is a good view of the island and the busy harbor, which makes the rather laborious climb up 500 steps worthwhile.
