Chom Thong
The little town of Chom Thong in north-west Thailand lies in the broad plain of the Menam Ping, hemmed in to the south by jungle covered mountains, not far from Thailand's highest peak, Doi Inthanon (2959 m (9711 ft)). Its main claim to fame is its Wat Phra That Si Chom Thong.
By car: Highway 108 from Chiang Mai (56 km (35 mi.)).
By bus: daily services out of Chiang Mai.

Ob Luang Gorge
A natural beauty spot en route to Mae Sariang is the Ob Luang Gorge where the Menam Chaem forces its way through a 30 m (98 ft) massif. A view of the gorge below can be had from a bridge between the cliffs.

Wat Phra That Si Chom Thong
The 15th C Burmese style chedi of Wat Phra That Si Chom Thong is thought to hold a relic of the Buddha. The impressive interior of the wiharn displays gilded carvings, along with teak columns and support.
Mae Klang
A little road behind the wat leads to the Mae Klang waterfall, 9 km (6 mi.) away, where a path takes the visitor on to the rocks by the 100 m (328 ft) cascade (swimming is dangerous). Also worth seeing is Borichinda cave, another 1 1/2-hour walk.
