The town is named for C.W. Post, the cereal manufacturer who was the town's founder. Established in 1907, the town still maintains some original buildings from this time, as well as an historic Main Street.
The museum features period furnished rooms, ranch and cowboy artifacts, pioneer household items, Indian artifacts, and other historical items related to the history of the area. The building which houses the museum is the old Post Sanitarium which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
This museum, located in one of the original buildings of C. W. Post, features changing seasonal exhibits. Holiday themes such as Easter and Christmas feature related art work.
