Midland (pop. 95,000) is the hometown of President George Bush. The area is known for it's oil and gas reserves which are prevalent in this area known as the Permian Basin.
The museum focuses on World War II aviation with an emphasis on preservation and restoration of WWII combat aircraft.

The Haley Library & History Center houses the collection and historical research of J. Evetts Haley. With more than 25,000 books, manuscripts and other printed material, the Haley Library preserves early Western life for future generations.
Fine western art and historical artifacts are on display including a life size bronze longhorn cow and calf and the original Alamo mission bell, cast in 1722.

The Museum of the Southwest is housed in a 1934 mansion, listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The center features an art museum, children's museum, and a planetarium.
