The town developed around Fort Croghan. The area is known for its granite outcroppings and is popular with rockhounds. Nearby Ink Lake provides recreational opportunities for those interested in water activities.
Six restored stone and log buildings, including a powder house, are located on the grounds of Fort Croghan. The museum features a variety of artifacts, including carriages, old guns, furniture, and other items from the frontier days.
The Longhorn Cave is lit in sections and open to the public. Special guided tours are also available. The cave has a history of occupation which dates to prehistoric times.
There are also hiking trails in the area, which is open for day use only.
