Description
The best starting-point for a tour of Tel Aviv is the Dizengoff Circle, named after Meir Dizengoff, Tel Aviv's first mayor after its separation from Jaffa in 1921. It is laid out on two levels, with a raised area for pedestrians above the carriageway. In this higher area is the striking "Fire and Water Fountain", designed by the well-known Israeli artist Yaacov Agam. At regular intervals (on the hour, except at 2 and 3pm) the fountain is illuminated from within, its colored aluminum rings begin to revolve and the jets of water, computer-controlled, move rhythmically in time to the music.
