Waitomo Cave - Glow-worm Cave

New Zealand Hotels
The principal attraction is the Glow-worm Cave, through which an underground stream flows. The cave was first explored in 1887. Glow-worms, which live only in conditions of fairly high humidity, produce long sticky threads like a spider's web, to which other small insects are attracted by the faint light generated by the glow-worms during the digestive process. Visitors are taken through the dark cave in boats and can observe the glow-worms hanging from the ceiling of the cave, twinkling like the stars.
