Tacna - Main Square Plaza de Armas

The Plaza de Armas in Tacna is the picture on the front of the 100 sole note. The square is adorned with a monument in the shape of an arch, commemorating the War of the Pacific. Accompanying this are two statues, one of Admiral Grau and the other of Colonel Bolegnesie.

Also in the Plaza de Armas is the Pileta Ornamental Fountain, designed by Gustave Eiffel. On the west side of the square is the neo-Renaissance Tacna Cathedral, completed in 1854. Look for the beautiful stainted glass windows in the cathedral.

There is a flag raising ceremony each Sunday morning in the Plaza de Armas.
