La Galite

35km/22mi off Cap Serrat, on the coast northeast of Tabarka, are the rocky La Galite islands, all uninhabited except the principal island from which the group takes its name. The Phoenicians had an anchorage on the island, which was known in classical times as Galathea. There are now no regular boat services to the islands, but a passage can usually be arranged in a fishing boat from Bizerte (100km/62mi) or Tabarka (60km/37mi). The islanders make a living by catching crayfish.
