Description
The Papyrus Museum in Syracuse was opened in 1989. The entrance to it can be found in the lane to the left of the Archeological Museum. Three rooms contain some original materials (such as papyrus and a boat made from papyrus), photos, facsimiles and video-films, all serving to illustrate how papyrus was used for everyday articles in ancient times, as well as providing writing material. This tradition in Syracuse goes far back in history and is preserved today by the Papyrus Institute, where pictures painted on papyrus are offered for sale.
