Megara Iblea - Excavations
French excavations between 1872 and 1889 uncovered parts of the ancient town: a perimeter wall, two archaic temples (sixth and fourth centuries B.C.), quayside installations and two necropolises.
More recent excavations between 1949 and 1961, again by the Ecole Française, examined the newer Hellenistic town, which existed 350-214 B.C.; the existence of an inner circular wall was established, as was that of the agora and a small Dorian temple; large quantities of archaic ceramics were also discovered.
