Description
Government House is the official residence of the governor of New South Wales. The famous convict architect Francis Greenway designed an elaborate building for the purpose, but this was not approved by the British government. The present building was erected 1836-45 to a design sent from London.

There are good views of Government House from some points in the Botanic Gardens, from the steps of the Opera House and from Government House Gate, near the Conservatorium of Music.
