Description
The old road through the Via Mala (closed to large cars) branches off 1km/ 0.6mi beyond Rongellen, immediately before a gallery. 800 m/2,625ft farther on, beyond the second gallery, is the Erste Brücke (First Bridge), built in 1941 on the site of an earlier bridge of 1738. Immediately beyond the bridge, on the right, are a parking place and a kiosk, from which a flight of 257 steps leads down to a gallery 120 m/394ft long running above the tumultuous river (admission charge). 300 m/984ft beyond this, after the third gallery, is the Zweite Brücke (Second Bridge: 800 m/2,887ft, built 1941), alongside the old bridge of 1739, 50 m/164ft above the river. Above, to the right, can be seen the new road. In 1.3km/1mi is the Dritte Brücke (Third Bridge: 885 m/2,904ft), at the end of the Via Mala, beside the little restaurant at Rania (on right).

The road now enters the pleasant open valley of Schams (Romansch Sassám), with the pointed summit of Hüreli or Hirli (2,855 m/9,367ft) in the background. 1km/ 0.6mi before Zillis is an access road to the N 13 expressway. 1km/ 0.6mi south is the village of Zillis.
