A short distance beyond Glaris a by-road branches off on the left to the little village of Monstein (1,626 m/5,335ft), idyllically situated on a sunny terrace on the mountainside, where the old German dialect of the Upper Valais is still spoken. The Grisons Mining Museum is worth seeing.
