Mesocco / Misoxer Tal (valley)

Mesocco or Misox (769 m/2,525ft; pop. 1,500), formerly known as Cremeo, is a village of fine stone houses, the chief place in the Val Mesocco or Mesolcina (Misoxer Tal), and, like the Val Calanca which runs parallel to it on the west, belongs to the canton of Grisons but is inhabited by an Italian-speaking and Roman Catholic population. The two valleys together are known as the Moèsano (from the River Moèsa which flows down the Val Mesocco).
