Laax - White Arena

(Local Name: Weisse Arena) Laax, Flims and Fellers (Romansch Falera, alt. 1,213 m/3,980ft) - where remains of a Middle Bronze Age settlement and cult site were found - together form the famous "Weisse Arena" ("White Arena"). An extensive winter sports region, it has recently been developed as a huge skiing complex, one of the largest in the Alps, more than 140 sq. km/54 sq. mi in area. Since November 1978, with the provision of facilities for access to the Vorab glacier area (3,025 m/9,925ft), it has been possible to ski here all year round. There are more than 52 trails, with a total length of some 220km/137mi, reached with the aid of four cableways, three cabin cableways, 11 chair-lifts and 15 ski-lifts.
