Gadmen (alt. 1,207 m/3,960ft) is a straggling little village in a picturesque situation under the steep rock faces of the Gadmerfluh. The road continues downhill on a gentle gradient, passes through a tunnel, crosses the gorge of the Gadmer Wasser on the high Schwendi bridge and winds its way down to the mouth of the Trift valley, from where one
can see the Trift glacier. It then crosses back to the right bank of the Gadmer Wasser and comes into the commune of Nessental (930 m/3,051ft) which gives its name to the lower part of the valley where fruit-trees abound. The road then runs down on a uniform easy gradient to Mühletal (837 m/2,746ft), at the mouth of the Gental, a valley running down from the Engstlenalp (toll road 11.5km/7mi); the stream is crossed on the Rossweidli Bridge. Then on to Wiler (4.5km/3mi: alt. 740 m/2,428ft). Beyond this point there is another fine view of the mountains, a fter which the road winds down into the wide valley of the Aare and arrives at Innertkirchen (626 m/2,054ft), a holiday resort surrounded by lush Alpine meadows.
