The summer and winter resort of Flims lying on a south-facing terrace 500 m/1,641ft above the Vorderrhein, consists of the original mountain village of Flims Dorf and the hotel development of Flims Waldhaus to the south. The high plateau with its extensive forests and its beautiful lake, the Caumasee, is magnificent walking and climbing country. This easily accessible resort - reached by leaving the highway at Reichenau, 10km/6mi west of Chur and taking a road which runs up to Flims in 12km/7mi - lies on the great mass of debris resulting from the biggest landslide of the last Ice Age in Switzerland.
