Visingo Attractions

From Gränna there are boats (20 minutes) to the largest island in Lake Vättern, Visingö (pop. 750; area 25sq.km/10sq.mi; 14km/8.5mi long, up to 3km/2mi wide). The prehistoric cemetery areas on the island point to early human settlement here. Visingsborg Castle, built by the Brahe family, was once the most splendid castle in Sweden, but was destroyed by fire in 1718 and is now a ruin. At the southern tip of the island is the "Castle on the Näs", Sweden's oldest secular building. Pleasant walks in the forest (on the south side of which are a number of mulberry-trees); rides in horse-drawn carriages.
